Good morning everyone,
I’m going to have a rant, so apologies for this but I have come across something that has really pissed me off today.
There will be swearing, you have been warned.
I was randomly watching videos on YouTube, and I came across a documentary about “Gaming Addiction” which, in my personal opinion, is bollocks. People can get addicted to anything. It doesn’t matter what it is, if you have an addictive personality, you will get addicted to whatever it is that interests you. Simple as that.
But that isn’t what has wound me up.
What really pissed me off was the use of the phrase “As a parent…”
Fuck right off with this smug, patronising, bullshit phrase.
This isn’t a new thing, and it has bugged the crap out of me for fucking years, but I was reminded it this morning.
This bullshit phrase is used by ignorant, arrogant people who think that just because they have children that their opinions matter more than anyone else’s.
What is that automatically makes your opinion better than other people’s just because you have kids?
I remember years ago I was watching a program about terrorism and they were discussing the effect it has on society and this one woman stood up and started talking beginning with the phrase “As a parent…” (queue the eye rolling) she was making moronic statements about Muslim peoples and that she won’t allow her kids to even talk to anyone from that culture and actually asked her son’s school to either move him out of his class to another one or to remove the young muslin girl FROM THE SCHOOL COMPLETELY.
One guy in the audience said to her that she was being ridiculous and that she shouldn’t be putting her prejudices on to her children or anyone else and that she was out of line demanding that the school remove the other child.
Her response was “Do you have children? No? Then you have no right to talk about this.”
I mean what the actual fuck?????
I know that this is an extreme example and says more about her racism than anything else, but unfortunately, it has come up in many aspects of life.
It has happened to me before in the past.
I was talking with someone, we were talking about drink driving, and they started off with the “As a parent…” I stopped them right there my exact words were. “What the fuck does being a parent have to do with not wanting people to be drunk behind the wheel of a car?”
Response: “You wouldn’t understand you don’t have children.”
Me: “So because I don’t have children my opinion doesn’t matter?”
Response: “Well, no. You don’t have to worry about things like that as you don’t have children.”
WELL FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
So according to this utter lunatic, I have no right to worry about getting killed by a fucking arsehole who gets pished and decided to drive home?
I know that not all people are like this. I am now a parent now, which you all know by now, and I don’t feel that my opinion on things is any more important now than it was before. I mean I now have different opinions on things that I did before she was born but that doesn’t mean that I disrespect or under value the opinions of my friends who don’t have kids.
Whoever first came up with this toxic phrase you can simply go and fuck yourself.
Fuck you and the horse you rode in on.
If you are still reading this, then thank you for putting up with my rant on this topic, and if you disagree with what I have said here, I would be more than happy to discuss it with you in the comments below. I would love to hear your opinions on this if you have a differing opinion or if you agree with me on this one
